These stories come from all over the world; from people I talk to every day and people I speak to much less frequently; from people I've known since birth to people I met after the 11th. I have taken liberties in choosing the accompanying photos: they are, for the most part, photos taken prior to September 11th during some of the happiest moments of my life -- before so many things changed. There has been much happiness since, but, "there was a time I called before," a much different time. And yet, not so different. One of the things I feared most in the months after September 11th was that in the resiliance it took to survive that day there hid the tendancy to forget -- for if we remember too much of that day, it is hard to go on living, walking the streets, riding the trains. Each day I balance the memory with the strength. Each day, I think of September 10th.
